Yellow-vented Bulbul

I released a Yellow-vented Bulbul yesterday morning. Fed him with a slice of apple and left his cage open. He didn't go far and was seen loitering around the garden till late evening.
Below is the fella visiting my Jambuls in the aviary

Left out some mealworms on the fence for him to eat while he acclimatise himself to the wild yonders. I think this young fella would adapt well over time.

Nest of the Yellow-vented Bulbul 2

Update on the newly hatched Yellow-vented bulbul shicks. 3 eggs but only 2 hatched:

22nd Aug '09 (6p.m.): Decided to "chai" my Jambuls in the garden. It disturbed the parents of the YVBB. Both flew out and seems angry with my Jambuls. When I moved the Jambuls further away from their nest, they seemed a little more pacified and return to minding their own business.

Yellow-vented Bulbuls

The Yellow-vented Bulbuls are common garden birds that has loud clicking and rolling songs. Saw a baby in a friend's place yesterday and manage to bring him home today. Kept him in a tall Skylark cage which I reckon would be his permanent cage unless a better option turns out in the future. Just for the fun factor and another arsenal to train Shamas in the future. Luckily they are still common and I have seen some that are regulars in my garden.

Many Bulbuls in Malaysia are either totally protected by law or restricted by licensing. The Yellow-vented, luckily is in neither list ;) This baby has good appetite. Been feeding him chicken feed (as was done by previous owner) and occasional cricket (5 thus far today).
